So theres been a bit of talking in the last week or two. I'd just take as long as her to text back, it went from 4 days to about 30 minutes in between texts.

She went from putting energy into the conversation to 3 word answers once it got to that point I just didn't respond.

I'm thinking you guess it's like a tennis battle, like back and forth... But I see it like a solo ping pong, or a chess battle with yourself.

Every response that comes form that place is in her favour. So any pretentious SMS you text her, she'll see through it.

Desired outcome and emotional investment in it happening are two entirely different things.

People have achieved this impossible ideal for things infinitely more significant than text games or outcome from a particular girl.

You might try taking this same (healthy) scientific approach to:

What's the effect of NOT PLAYING at all, vs. the effects of micro subtleties in the game.

You might find the result is more aligned with what you want, and saves a lot of research. Why not start there?

I see only a few outcomes:

You keep playing til it fizzles it out and dies.

You don't play, she never engages and it dies (same result with none of the effort)

You don't play, she does engage and then the ball is completely in your court (ideal result, also with no effort).

So fuck emotional discussion. One seems more scientifically sound to me.
