Post subject: | State of AI |
This post was inspired by a recent post and questions on the current state of AI and recent discussions with multiple people. Google released its latest video generator Veo3 recently and also Flow, which go together very well it seems. Title: Google Veo 3 is INSANE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No897J6brCE 19m watch, clean how to use it and examples Title: VEO 3 AI Video Generation is Literally Insane with Perfect Audio! - 60 User Generated Wild Examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFMUChHgXYk 9m watch, 60 examples gathered from other places This one is beautiful, if someone has a youtube link to this let me know and i'll add it. https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasf ... _included/ edit - original: https://x.com/HashemGhaili/status/1925332319604257203 I am sure by now your various media sites are flooded with them, just an example of how fast things are advancing in this space. The first video was the cleanest least fluff one I found today. |

Sam Altman has been interviewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MWT_doo68k In the news today, Jony Ive has joined him at Open AI. I'm halfway through reading the article, so I can't say for sure what it's saying. It does seem to say though "OpenAI hopes to sell 100m AI devices that can work alongside a laptop or smartphone". |

These short films and the longer ones are getting impressive. The one on the ai battle reminds me of when they were pitting them against each other in fps games, how the personality of how they were trained comes through. Interesting to see the effects and the implications. |

Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.08872
This study explores the neural and behavioral consequences of LLM-assisted essay writing. Participants were divided into three groups: LLM, Search Engine, and Brain-only (no tools). Each completed three sessions under the same condition. In a fourth session, LLM users were reassigned to Brain-only group (LLM-to-Brain), and Brain-only users were reassigned to LLM condition (Brain-to-LLM).
.. These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI's role in learning. |

This follows from articles read, videos watched and many conversations in person about this subject, seems to be one that is coming to the fore more and more. Potemkin Understanding in Large Language Models https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.21521
Large language models (LLMs) are regularly evaluated using benchmark datasets. But what justifies making inferences about an LLM's capabilities based on its answers to a curated set of questions? This paper first introduces a formal framework to address this question. The key is to note that the benchmarks used to test LLMs -- such as AP exams -- are also those used to test people. However, this raises an implication: these benchmarks are only valid tests if LLMs misunderstand concepts in ways that mirror human misunderstandings. Otherwise, success on benchmarks only demonstrates potemkin understanding: the illusion of understanding driven by answers irreconcilable with how any human would interpret a concept.
