Women are perpetrators of IPV at rates comparable to men Reciprocal abuse is the most common form of IPV Men and women hit first at equal rates Hit 2: Women perpetrate serious violence Women commit higher rates of 'clinical level' (severe) assaults Large numbers of non-abusive men are severely assaulted Hit 3: Both men and women suffer as a result of IPV Physical, psychological & financial injuries from women's violence are neither infrequent nor inconsequential Women also cause injuries Male perpetrators generate more injuries Hit 4: The causes of IPV are varied but similar across the sexes Women's motivations are similar to men's Self-defense is a relatively uncommon motive |
