How do you guys deal with insults? Nowadays I don't usually care unless they're one of my close friends. I don't react to the person or the insult much, but I feel I must say something and I care what others around me would think if I say nothing. For example today a guy insulted me by calling me gay indirectly, a girl I like was in the class and my logic was she might think I'm gay and the nothing will happen. Also I don't want to appear low in social status. I literally don't know how to respond, I feel annoyed I guess because this stuff is old. It's not true and there's no point. I usually get insulted for being quiet or on sexuality. Being quite seems to make certain people single you out. |

Next time just look him in the eyes and say, 'Yep!'...then turn to look at the chick and immediately follow with, 'Gay as HELL.'...say it with a smug smile. Or...look him dead in the face and say, 'I'm glad you broke the ice, because I'd LOVE bend you over!'...but intonate it so that those in ear range can obvious tell you're being sarcastic. So much fun. |

Nice Kidd that's my favorite thing to see happen and do in any context where an insult is thrown. If anyone is familiar with improv comedy, a rule is you always run with what comes up and say yes to it. I love doing that no matter what it is and it doesn't have to be insults. What would come out of my mouth would be something like "is this because I was blowing that guy when you first walked over here?" I like to be totally dead pan. It really catches off guard and they either play along if they are quick, or laugh or are thrown way off guard. Yours is definitely more challenging and confrontational if you come back at them sarcastically for others to hear but its got that theme of running with what comes up The trick is to actually find the situation funny because it is. Would I get mad if someone called me "wide load"? (I'm thin). Basically all insults can feel as absurd and if they don't its educational to see what actually triggers you. |

That's a good point feeling the insults an absurd joke... I guess inner development cause me to feel nothing to more things that used to trigger me. Having fun seems better than worrying about what others think. I'm pretty sarcastic so Kidd's approach would fit me. However until I do it a few times I'll probably mess up the tone, practice builds confidence. |

Being quite seems to make certain people single you out. It is nothing to do with being quiet. It is because they get a reaction. More specifically the one they are after. When they fail to get the reaction, they will stop playing with the toy. -- Flow with the river, rather than fighting against it.. That does not imply let the river wash you away, use its energy and go with it, to get where you want to go. |

I mean specifically people who have been around for a while. That kid has been around for almost ten years and I used to react to him. In the last two years I really have not reacted to his games, until today. I would think out in the last two years he would give up. Yet he still tries. I'm not sure why my image is the way it is its not accurate of me, but whatever. I think that leads to this type of stuff. Some people try me because I am quite I'm sure of. Maybe they're used to quiet people reacting the way they want to. I mean people who I have not really met or known well. |

Others probably perceive people who are quiet to be of lower social status than themselves; they see u as an easy target. That kid has been around for almost ten years and I used to react to him. In the last two years I really have not reacted to his games, until today. I would think out in the last two years he would give up. Yet he still tries. Maybe they're used to quiet people reacting the way they want to. I mean people who I have not really met or known well. They're perceptions don't define u, however, and as long as u don't elicit a reaction, you defeat them at their game. Not reacting to their insults doesn't necessarily mean not responding. If I see their comment as offensive but non-malicious in intent, then I would probably do what kidd suggested and feed it back to them with some witty remark. If their comment was meant to harm me in some way, then I would probably just look at them and maybe shake my head or give them a "are you retarded?" scowl. |

Dude, you felt the need to respond because a girl you like is in the class and you were worried about how she might react to your reaction to someone else. That's where I would put my attention if I were you. |

Add a playful eye roll at her with that and her laughter will drive him back to his hole |
