why would any man want a wholsesale ‘return’ to a situation (still widely prevalent, incidentally) where men worked and women stayed home living for free? Many may choose to describe this situation as ‘oppression’ of women and ‘denying’ women careers and being ‘controlling’, but the reality is self evident. He works, while she spends his money, lives for free in the house he pays for, and inherits his estate and pension when he dies earlier than her.

If we must use such inappropriate descriptions of historical social structure, who was really ‘oppressed’ 100 years ago?
