Post subject:  wanting approval from women and childhood?

I'm now reading the book 'The Manipulated Man'. I'm only half way through- what a great book. Anyway after reading so far it got me thinking:

All my life I wanted approval from women, I wanted women to tell me how great I am. I was doing things for women and wanted them to praise me for it. It was hard for me to let go of this and after a lot of hard work I managed to let go (although not entirely yet...)

Why was it so hard for me to let this go? why are so many guys have a problem to let it go?

well, what if it all comes down to our childhood?

when we were kids we were used to getting praised and appreciated by our moms. And so we are not aware how this pattern continues as we are older and dating women. The
approval from women we want goes back to what we wanted from our mom?

It's like when we are dating women we see our mom (unconsciously....)?

Now I remember reading something about this a very long time ago that Sigmund Freud wrote.
only back then I didn't know what I know now so back then I didn't understand it or make the connection.

Now here is a thought: what if we were raised by a wolf pack or by bears?
even then it would be nice if a woman praised us or appreciated us but would we be attached to it as much? or want it as much?

probably not....
