I watched a
10 minute video yesterday on the link between Hugh Hefner, and
Alfred Kinsey who "is widely regarded as the first major figure in American sexology"
It is very interesting and I think it's touching on Altair's points.
TL;DW : Basically, our view of sex today is based on this Kinsey's 10+ years experiences on people of all ages, even children down to a couple of months old (and, his two books are available on libgen too...)

There are older males, even in their thirties and older, who are able to equal this performance, but a much higher proportion of these pre-adolescent males are so capable. Even the youngest males, as young as 5 months in age, are capable of such repeated reactions. Typical cases are shown in Table 34. The maximum observed was 26 climaces in 24 hours, and the report indicates that still more might have been possible in the same period of time.
