That when you lose your ego you actually become more confident.

So true.

It's like the ego percieves its own abscence as a lack of self-respect and personal integrity, when in fact it's the exact opposite.

I agree Alchemist, another thing I find is that you also become more empathetic of yourself thereby loving yourself more.

You don't have to drop it completely to see changes... I'm practicing unattachment to people and things and that worked well for me, so far

I experienced what they call The dark night of the soul. When bad shit happens to you, it can be a very posotive thing.

I'm kind of feeling it now sometimes after reading 'those' two books. But I do feel much more free and indifferent so that's a good thing.

Yeah, I did too.. It was like "I give everything up, it's no use." But it actually helped.

Sniper, when you have an experience that completely humbles you and you don't give a shit about "looking cool' anymore or anything like that, and ONLY care about how you view yourself (It happens automatically), you can consider your ego officially ko'd and you get to live free. It's hard for me to go deeper right now becasue this is new to me, but now I know what Kidd and 'grinus were talking about.

I like this Mannija, it happens to me frequently now, and it's cool because I know that it is for bettering yourself. it's a really serene type of feeling that you experience during these times. no anger, no animosity, just humbleness and serenity.

Yup, you start patting yourself on the back like you would a best friend, and that's a very powerful place to be!

You make (reading from the way you write your questions) for my taste, it to much into an: intellectual and "(what to) do" excercise.
While losing ego (in the inflation of your own greatness (and other not) self, the attachement and personal ownership sense) isn't exactly something that happens through excersises. Imo doing excersise so to lose ego, often make it only worse.

If a person is lucky, it can happen for him by for instance by giving up attachment to the outcome of his/her actions or by personal mental conclusion (about truth).
And if not, then it's bad luck for that person.
I'm not sure how debating and doing all kinds of excersises will help it though.

Like I told Sniper, the Make-A-Wish foundation kids have completely lost their ego's, look deeper at them to find out how.
