Plot: A young martial artist's unparalleled Tai Chi skills land him in a highly lucrative underworld fight club.
More info:
Man of Tai Chi is a 2013 Chinese-American martial arts film directed by and starring Keanu Reeves. The film is Reeves' first in a directing role. Man of Tai Chi is a multilingual narrative, partly inspired by the life of Reeves' friend, stuntman Tiger Chen. Pre-production began in 2008 with years-long script refinements. During Man of Tai Chi's five years of scripting and production, Reeves acted in several B movies with lead roles as Henry in 2010's Henry's Crime and John in 2012's Generation Um.... When the project eventually moved into the production phase, filming occurred on mainland China and Hong Kong. The film premiered in 2013 with showings at the Beijing Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. It is also scheduled to be shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The work was awarded in Beijing and praised by recognized director of action genre films, John Woo.
Code: Select all With the newfound powers some users would acquire trough hard work in here, IMO this movie is the "choose the path" per excellence. Also I'm a big fan of oriental martial arts movies. |

Great movie.
Mediocre at it's best. Terrible acting and directing, some good fights, but if I want to watch people fighting I watch UFC.

I'll be the rekieter's advocate with this one. While the morale stands, the movie is really not much of a movie imo ... I don't have particular things in mind, but overall, didn't like it that much. |

I found it very disappointing. 5 years plus to make, woah did they waste some time. Also a very very tenuous link to Tai Chi. I pretty much get where they were trying to go, however to me it just did not work. |

Obviously because this is choreographed.
UFC is choreographed? Any source? If you qualified the movie solely on the fights you missed the Tai-chi morale, not that is grandiose delivered in the film, but is worth of mentioning, because of the journey of the "hero and antihero" did, and the struggles (because he decided so) to find his internal balance. I picked fights because it was the only thing that was better than bad in this movie. Anyone else found montage awful? Also all the 'clues' and hints (for ex. Good hero dressed in white, bad guy in black) were so pretentious that it almost felt offensive at times. If I wanted to learn about Tai Chi the last thing I would resort to is action movie lol. With modern Web it is so easy to find boks, interviews, even portals about Tai chi that going for info to some action, fighting movie with Holywood star or anything than useful metaphors is ridiculous. |
