The storyline actually seems to be considered a dud amongst most Spider-man comic fans, and the main villain of the story, while extremely formidable (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morlun), and delivers an ass-whuppin' out of this world, is not a very popular one. Also, in my opinion, the storyline meanders quite a bit.
However! :-
To me one of the main points of the story reflects one of my favourite comments by the Kidd!!:
When you finally stop resisting and accept your faults...they become faults no longer...they transform into unique strengths that can only be properly wielded by YOU.

This is beautifully portrayed in the final 1/3 of the story. Especially when he embraces 'The Other' - beautiful imagery of 'letting it go'

Also, many parts of the story clearly reference 'the shadow'. One of my favourite lines: "Scratch a human, get an animal."
Word of warning: reading it as a fan of classic Marvel comic book storylines, I find it is not well written at all. However, the subject matter, as described above, is very profound and applicable to guys like us, the relevant points are delivered in a very impactful way, and I am very impressed that comic book writers would choose this topic, and portray it like this.
For most readers, this storyline would be a total fucking waste of money. But for those aware of the implications of the subject matter and interested in these types of ideas, it's a very valuable story.
*****SPOILER ALERT! I AM ABOUT TO GIVE AWAY (what I perceive to be) THE MAIN POINT OF THE STORY:*****
Accept us. Accept who WE are. Accept who YOU are. The man who dreamed of being a spider..... and the spider who dreamed of being a man. Find within us the gifts you did not know you possessed.... the strength you were afraid to call your own. Be the man you are..... but now, at last..... embrace THE OTHER. Embrace us.
Do not struggle. The pain you feel.... is the agony..... of birth.
Fucking beautiful. I salute the writers.
