Jeez, what a general question.

To start with it was not 'holywoodised', it did not totally rip up the story or rewrite male parts as female. And it attracted a shit load of controversy, whereas the cage one was considered a joke.

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wicker ... 73_film%29

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wicker ... 06_film%29
Quote:
Christopher Lee, who played Lord Summerisle in the original film, said about the remake: "What do I think of it being played by a woman, when it was played by a man in 1972, as part of a Scottish pagan community, and now it's played by a woman with the same name? What do I think of it? Nothing. There's nothing to say."[2]

The film garnered five Razzie Award nominations, for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Cage), Worst Screenplay, Worst Remake, and Worst On-Screen Couple (Cage and his bearsuit).

Cage himself acknowledged that the movie was "absurd." He remarked in 2010: "There is a mischievous mind at work on The Wicker Man, you know? You know what I mean? And I finally kind of said, 'I might have known that that movie was meant to be absurd.' But saying that now after the fact is OK, but to say it before the fact is not, because you have to let the movie have its own life."
Watch it yourself and see what you think

OK I saw it. I think it's much much better than the remake....

The things that were so obvious was how the cult leader was a woman in the remake (while in the original it was a man) & Also in the remake: the men were portrayed as symps who don't matter while it's not like that in the original one....

Also the original one was showing the pagan thing very well while in the remake it was not shown at all.

The whole point of the movie was the pagan thing and in the remake it was left out -
and became just another regular horror movie.

The original one is def. much much better.

I wonder how many Pagan communities still exist today and if they are out in the open or secret....

in the remake the cop was the hero, women were evil

in the original the cop was the bad guy victim of his own beliefs taking the role of a fool as many men(husband, priest, polititian etc) going against nature

in my view, nature is indifferent

we create rules or we were raised with rules to control it, control women control friends forget about death, the cop in the movie only found evil in that island due to the way he was raised, the island was not evil he was

those places exist, they exist in the mind, men don't want to go there, but can't ignore it, so they keep and enjoy the idea as an external mith, dark cults where all the unspeakabe happens.

I saw the original one, brilliant movie.

He was really a fool though.

When he followed her and she's like "I know the way out of the tunnel". -> Well why didn't you escape you dumb ?
When he's in the Wicker man, why doesn't he try to push the 'door', it's not big wood ... instead he just accepts to die while thinking about resurrection ...

The education there must be thrilling
And the daughter of the guy on the bar, laughing as her 'sluttiness song', what a way to be raised

Take that, so-called civilised countries
